Alanah Roy, LCSW

Hi, I’m Alanah. I’m a psychotherapist and educator passionate about supporting individuals and families at the intersection of health and mental health, and in life’s most challenging moments- birth, loss, and illness.

I graduated from the UCLA Masters of Social Welfare program following a decade-long career as a health educator and doula in New York City. In these roles, I provided educational workshops for medical students on trauma-informed care and specialized in birth and postpartum support of families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss. This was deeply meaningful and formative work. It solidified my dedication to further my career as a therapist and deepened my understanding of how our healthcare system can compound feelings of powerlessness in times of intense vulnerability.

Upon receiving my MSW, I worked in various community mental health and hospital settings throughout Los Angeles. These roles provided me a wealth of experience at the intersection of health and mental health and included pediatric and adult medical social work, end of life care, group and individual therapy for struggling new parents, and support groups for the parents of medically complex children. Currently, in addition to my role as a private psychotherapist, I am the Clinical Director of Therapy Heals, a practice specializing in traumatic grief, and provide crisis response services to schools and businesses following unexpected death. I am on the board of the non-profit KidzSpirit, which supports families of children experiencing intestinal failure. I enjoy sharing my passion and knowledge through education, am active in public health advocacy, and love to collaborate with individuals and organizations with shared values.

On the personal side, I live in the Los Angeles area with my partner, our two young children, and adopted misfit pets. I’m a loving, devoted, and imperfect mother, and a lover of people and their stories. Truly invested in the people and communities I serve, I show up as my authentic self, deeply committed to my clients’ healing.

My work affirms my belief in the power of connection, our miraculous complexity, and remarkable tenacity- even in life’s hardest moments. It is an honor to accompany my clients through their journey of self-discovery, growth, and healing.
