Alanah Roy, LCSW

Hi, I’m Alanah. I’m a psychotherapist and educator passionate about supporting individuals and families navigating life’s most challenging moments- loss, illness, and trauma.

I earned my Master’s in Social Welfare from UCLA after spending ten years in New York City working as a health educator and doula. During that time, I led workshops for medical students on trauma-informed care and supported families through birth, postpartum, and the heartbreaking experiences of pregnancy and infant loss. This work was incredibly meaningful to me, and it solidified my dedication to further my career as a therapist.

After earning my MSW, I worked in a range of settings across Los Angeles, including nonprofits and medical settings, and have had the privilege of working alongside notable experts in medicine, anxiety disorders, traumatic grief, and perinatal mental health and advocacy. These roles provided me with rich experience at the intersection of health and mental health, and trauma and grief. They included hospital-based support for kids and adults (Oncology, Gastroenterology, and Palliative Care), therapy for struggling new parents, support groups for the parents of medically complex children, and crisis response services to the community following overdose and unexpected death.

Currently a therapist in private practice, I find working around issues of anxiety, grief, and trauma deeply rewarding. I enjoy sharing my passion and knowledge through education, am active in public health advocacy and non-profit leadership, and love to collaborate with individuals and organizations with shared values.

On the personal side, I live in the Los Angeles area with my partner, our two young children, and adopted misfit pets. I’m a loving, devoted, and imperfect mother, and a lover of people and their stories. Once a children’s hospital patient myself, and now a children’s hospital parent- I have deep sensitivity and insight regarding the layered stressors families face as they navigate illness. Truly invested in the people and communities I serve, I show up as my authentic self, deeply committed to my clients’ healing.

My work affirms my belief in the power of connection, our miraculous complexity, and remarkable tenacity- even in life’s hardest moments. It is an honor to accompany my clients through their journey of self-discovery, growth, and healing.
